Speaking on Cadena SER’s El Larguero, former Barcelona striker David Villa has sung praises of Robert Lewandowski, claiming that there were never any doubts about him hitting the ground running at Spotify Camp Nou.
Lewandowski came to Barcelona this summer, signing from Bayern Munich. The 34-year-old has decimated every conceivable goal-scoring record during his time in Germany, but there were some skeptics who worried whether he could continue that same vein of form outside the Bundesliga.
And the Polish captain has answered those doubters in some way as he has already scored 11 goals in eight games in all competitions. Lewandowski is currently La Liga’s top goalscorer (8) and is the front-runner for the Pichichi Trophy.
Now Villa, who enjoyed a successful three-year spell at Barcelona between 2010 and 2013, welcomed Lewandowski by saying:
“He is one of the best strikers in recent years. Adaptation is always a must, but a talent like him could play anywhere.
“He has so much talent and experience that no matter how long the adaptation process took, there was no doubt that he would do well.”
Villa have heaped praise on Lewandowski after the Poland captain was named the best striker in the world by former Barcelona coach and current Netherlands boss Louis van Gaal.
The 34-year-old has been a huge success for Barcelona in the early stages of the campaign and will need to maintain that form throughout the season if Xavi Hernandez & co. they are supposed to go all the way to La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
