Barcelona prodigy rejected mega €5 million contract from Manchester United

In a huge revelation, journalist Anais Marti Herrero (h/t Barça Times ) claimed Manchester United tabled a lucrative €5m contract offer for Barcelona wonderkid Gavi this summer, but the teenager rejected it.

Gavi enjoyed a great breakout campaign in 2021/22. A product of La Masia’s academy, the 18-year-old has firmly established himself as a key member of Barcelona’s first-team squad.

However, his future was subject to speculation last summer as the teenage sensation’s contract was due to expire in 2023. With a €50 million release clause embedded in his previous deal, there were fears that some clubs could trigger it and entice him away

Liverpool have been heavily linked with a move for Gavi, while Bayern Munich have also been keen on the 18-year-old.

Now, according to a report by Anais Marti Herrero, Manchester United are also intent on signing Gavi and have even offered a lucrative deal for the La Masia graduate. According to the report, the 18-year-old has been offered a three-year contract worth €5 million per season.

However, they were met with a strong rejection from the 18-year-old, whose priority has always been to stay at Barcelona and succeed.

The teenager made the admission after signing a new long-term deal with the Catalan giants which extends his stay at Spotify’s Camp Nou until 2026.

Since breaking into the first team, Gavi has made 54 appearances for Barcelona, scoring two goals and assisting six more. This season he became a regular starter in the lineup ahead of more experienced individuals like Frenkie de Jong and Franck Kessie.
