Barcelona president has started to rebuild bridges with Lionel Messi

Lionel Messi has always been a hot topic at FC Barcelona following his shocking exit from Camp Nou in the summer of 2021.

The PSG superstar already returned to Catalonia earlier this year and Xavi Hernandez would like to have him available from the start of the 2023/24 campaign.

On that note, Barcelona appear to have begun rebuilding bridges with Lionel Messi in a bid to lure him back to Camp Nou next year.

This was reported by Sergio A. Gonzalez, who suggests that there has been a recent rapprochement between Messi and Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

“I was told this week that there was a rapprochement between Laporta and Leo Messi,” says the Barcelona journalist (h/t Carpetas Blaugrana), who went on to suggest that Laporta is currently trying to restore the relationship between the two and offer Messi more clarity about of his departure last year.

“They told me about the call where Laporta had already begun to rebuild the relationship and explain to Leo some things that they were not closed to when he left,” Gonzalez added.

Messi, who had a lackluster debut campaign at PSG last season, has enjoyed a solid start to the 2022/23 season. He has been involved in 14 goals in 11 competitive games this term, notably building a formidable attacking partnership alongside Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.

With his contract at PSG set to expire at the end of the season, a return to the Camp Nou remains a strong possibility, although Barcelona will face stiff competition from some MLS clubs, including Inter Miami.

A longer stay at PSG cannot be ruled out either, especially as the forward has finally found his feet in Paris this season.
